After a few weeks on the coast without many Sanderling on the shore there were a good number to see this morning probably due to the fact that not many people were about because of heavy rain. A few Turnstones were in among the Sandlings at the top of the beach.
Once the rain stopped I took my camera and took advantage of the birds.
While watching many of the Sanderlings decided to take a dip in the sea to wash something I have not seen before.
These are the busiest little birds. Looks as if they seldom stand still long. Great pictures and I loved the video. I can understand why the birds disappear when humans are around. If I was a bird I would do that very same thing.

What is nice about these birds is if you sneak along the beach and sit down they are very accommodating and get on with their day so much better then watching the TV!

They are so cute and I felt badly for them with all that wind ruffling their feathers, so I was surprised to see they decided to go into the water. I thought they were cold enough already!

Me too Linda. All the years I have been watching them it is the 1st time I have seen then do it – I have seen the odd one do it but never group bath!

They were like lemmings – they followed one another. I kept saying out loud “in the cold and that breeze you’re going into the water!” I keep forgetting they are hardy little souls!
